or The development of a 3D object is the unraveling of its surface(s) so it is flattened out as a 2D drawing. Tasks and exam questions typically provide pupils with an orthographic drawing of a 3D object or structure and they are asked to complete the full development.
The lines used in development drawings: - Solid lines: Solid lines are used to represent the outline of the 2D drawing. - Phantom Lines: Phantom lines (aka bend lines) are the line type used to represent the bend position on the 2D drawing. Phantom lines are NOT to be used on curved objects or curved sections of a development. The reason for this is that a curved surface is made up of an infinite number of bends and cannot be represented by any specific bend point. Requirements for Examination (H.L): - The development of flat surfaces such as boxes (O.L). - The development of cylinders (O.L). - The development of truncated (angle cut) cylinders. - The development of a cone. - The development of a truncated (top removed) cone. - True lengths of lines.
