Why do we use Planes?
There are numerous uses for Planes when modelling in Solidworks:
- Offsetting a sketch plane to another plane or surface. For example, if we wanted to sketch 20mm off the front plane we would insert a new plane 20mm away from the front plane.
- To insert a plane for sketching at an angle to another plane or surface.
- To create a constraint for a extrude to work up to.
- To act as a mirror for symmetry. And for using mirror features.
- For creating multidimensional lofts.
There are many more uses for planes but these are some general uses. The best way to get comfortable with planes is to experiment with them.
